Twenty & Six

1Twenty & Six was one of the first brunch places I tried out in North Melbourne, and after seeing the salmon tartare scattered around my instagram, I marked it down as a place to re-visit.234The space is just as I remembered, large and filled with light. I remember seeing these milk crates on the wall and marking it down as something I wanted in my own room.56Unfortunately, there has been a menu change and the salmon tartare was no longer available, however, we were seated in the beautiful courtyard, and soon, I found something else that piqued my interest from the menu.

Iced Filter – $5.00

Cold and acidic, this ice filter was everything I was looking for when Melbourne was going through that week of over 40s weather.

8

Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Hash, Kale, Red Quinoa, Avocado, Fetta and Fried Egg – $17.00

Due to the warm weather, I ordered something on the lighter side. However, I didn’t realise just how light it was going to be, it was essentially a breakfast salad. I thought the sweet potato and pumpkin hash was going to form a base of some sort, kind of like a hash brown but more robust, but it was basically just roasted cubes of sweet potato and pumpkin. This was definitely suitable in Summer, although it was nothing amazing flavour wise, and I don’t think it was worth the $17 price tag.

9

Grilled Halloumi Sandwich – $13.00

My friend got the grilled halloumi sandwich, and although simple, she thinks the saltiness from the halloumi, bitterness from the rocket, and the sweetness and acidity from the beetroot wish worked well together.10My visit to Twenty & Six was a bit disappointing this time round, but I’m willing to blame it on what I ordered from the menu, since there are still a number of interesting sounding dishes that I have yet to try. That being said, I probably won’t be rushing back to Twenty & Six anytime soon, just because there are so many other places in North Melbourne that I still need to try.

How to get there:
Twenty & Six is located on Queensberry Street, get on tram #57 and get off at stop #13 Curzon Street/Queensberry Street, and the cafe is just 70 metres away.
